Cimex lectularius, commonly known as the bed bug, is a small, reddish-brown insect that feeds on human blood. These bugs are about the size of an apple seed and are usually found in the seams of mattresses, box springs, and furniture cracks. Bed bugs are primarily nocturnal and can hide in small fabric areas, electrical outlets, and picture frames.
Bed bugs go through five nymphal stages before becoming adults. They need a blood meal to molt from one stage to the next. Females lay about five eggs daily in sheltered locations. Bed bugs can live for several months without feeding. Although they do not transmit diseases, their bites can cause itching and allergic reactions.
Cimex hemipterus is a species of bed bug found in tropical and subtropical regions. Like its cosmopolitan cousin, Cimex lectularius, this bed bug feeds on the blood of humans and other animals. They are small, reddish-brown insects growing to about 4-5 mm long. These bugs are oval and flattened, so they easily hide in cracks and crevices.
Cimex hemipterus is primarily active at night but can also feed during the day if it’s too hot or dry. They prefer to live near water sources to ensure their larvae have access to moisture. If you suspect an infestation, look for these bugs in areas close to your bed or other resting places. Signs of an infestation include small red dots of blood on your sheets, brown fecal streaks, and discarded skins.
Leptocimex Boueti can be troublesome if found in your house. They primarily feed on humans, often at night, but can also come out during the day if it is too hot or dry. They prefer to live near water sources to ensure their larvae have access to fresh drinking water, though they are not aquatic themselves.
Adult Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed, with a flat, oval-shaped body. They are reddish-brown and darken after feeding. These bed bugs have long antennae and raspberry-like compound eyes. They have three pairs of legs and their bodies can expand when feeding. If you suspect an infestation, it is crucial to understand that these pests are not easily eradicated. Contact Santee Pest Control to address the problem and prevent further infestations effectively.
Bed bug eggs are tiny and difficult to see. They are about the size of a pinhead, measuring around 1mm in length. The eggs are pearl-white in color, making them blend easily with light-colored surfaces. If the eggs are more than five days old, you may notice a tiny eye spot on them.
Bed bugs lay their eggs in hidden, sheltered areas near their food sources. Common places include mattress seams, crevices in box springs, and spaces under baseboards. Female bed bugs can lay about five eggs daily, hatching in 4-12 days. These eggs are a crucial part of the bed bug life cycle, leading to new infestations if not properly treated.
Bed bug nymphs are immature bed bugs that go through five stages before becoming adults. They are smaller and lighter in color than adults, making them harder to spot. Each nymph stage requires a blood meal to molt to the next stage. This feeding process usually takes about 5-10 minutes.
Nymphs can be found near areas where people sleep or rest. They hide in mattress seams, bed frames, and other small crevices. Signs of nymph presence include tiny, pale bugs and small blood spots on sheets. Proper treatment targets these areas to ensure all nymphs are eradicated.
Adult bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects about the size of an apple seed. They have flat, oval-shaped bodies that become more elongated and balloon-like after feeding. These pests feed on human blood and typically bite at night when their hosts are asleep.
Adult bed bugs are usually found near places where people sleep or rest. They hide in mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, and other furniture close to sleeping areas. They can also be found behind electrical outlets and picture frames. To identify an infestation, look for tiny red dots of blood, brown streaks of fecal matter, and discarded skins. Regularly inspecting these areas can help detect and manage bed bug problems early.
Our bed bug control treatment starts with a detailed inspection by our certified inspectors. They identify bed bugs through photos or symptoms and provide a prep sheet with instructions. Customers must prepare by removing items from walls, vacuuming infected areas, and laundering bedding and clothing. Our technicians treat the entire room, focusing on all furniture footings, moldings, cracks, crevices, bed frames, headboards, box springs, and mattresses. The black covering under the box spring must be removed for effective treatment. Treated areas should remain unoccupied for at least three hours.
We recommend 3-4 sessions, depending on the severity of the infestation. The cost of treatment is determined after the inspection. Our treatments are pet-friendly, but it is best to leave the home for 3-4 hours during and after treatment. We offer a 30-day warranty for whole-home treatments. Prevent reinfestation by following our guidelines and maintaining a clean environment. Our comprehensive and highly effective approach ensures the complete eradication of bed bugs, providing our customers with a sense of security and peace of mind.
We offer a complimentary follow-up treatment two weeks after the initial service. This follow-up includes applying an insect growth regulator to stop the life cycle of the bed bugs. Any remaining eggs or nymphs will be effectively treated, preventing them from maturing into adults.
Our technicians will inspect the treated areas again to check for any signs of bed bug activity. This extra step provides an added layer of protection and peace of mind. With our follow-up treatment, you can be confident that we are committed to completely eradicating bed bugs from your home.
